CIPEC Industrial Energy Innovator Award Given to GM Canada
Waterloo, ON, 24-May-05 - General Motors of Canada has received a CIPEC Industrial Energy Innovator Award for their Monitoring, Tracking and Reporting system. GM's system identifies, monitors, and tracks energy-conservation initiatives in their Oshawa, St. Catharines and Windsor plants. As a result, these plants reduced energy use by 6.2 percent between 2003 and 2004.
General Motors Canada engaged Energent Incorporated (formerly Northern Dynamic Inc) to design, develop, and implement their real-time energy-consumption reporting system. The companies have worked together over several years to implement the various phases of this project. Energent congratulates GM Canada on their CIPEC award and their energy conservation success!
Canadian companies that excel at saving energy were recognized by the Government of Canada at the Canadian Industry Program for Energy Conservation's (CIPEC) Energy 2005 conference. David McGuinty, Member of Parliament for Ottawa South, presented the Industrial Energy Innovator Awards on behalf of the Honourable R. John Efford, Minister of Natural Resources Canada. He was joined by CIPEC Chairman Doug Speers, Chairman of Emco Corporation. Industrial Energy Innovator Awards are given out for noteworthy achievements in the areas of employee awareness and training; corporate stewardship; monitoring, tracking and reporting; and integrated energy-efficiency strategy.
CIPEC and the Industrial Energy Innovators Awards reflect the Government of Canada's approach to climate change, which is focused on making the right choices for Canada. This will ensure that the actions taken produce long-term and enduring results while maintaining a strong and growing economy.
