OPA Save on Energy Program

The Ontario Power Authority (OPA) recently announced a new Process & Systems Program (P&S) to help Local Distribution Companies (LDC) in Ontario meet conservation targets established as a result of Ontario's Green Energy Act (GEA)

Ontario businesses are seeing the bottom-line benefits of energy efficiency.  Large industrial and commercial facilities can translate big energy costs into significant opportunities to save.  The Process & Systems Program is designed to help you find and hold onto major energy savings.  This is a program designed for more than saving money, it is about giving your  business a competitive advantage by enhancing productivity and quality through energy management.  Industries that can take advantage of this Program include:

Iron & Steel                         Mining

Pulp/Paper                          Automotive

Petroleum                           Food & Beverage

 Mining

The Program will fund up to $75,000 per site (or up to 80% of the total cost) to implement and support Monitoring and Targeting (M&T) initiatives at qualified industrial facilities.  Take control of your energy costs and be part of the growing trend of green initiatives for the industrial sector.

Why Incentives for M&T?

  • Achieve energy savings. M&T analysis produces valuable insights and feedback to clearly identify operational waste.
  • Measure & verify (M&V) results. M&T acccurately quantifies capital project savings - a requirement of the P&S Program.
  • Monitor and report your progress. Obtain real-time insight into your progress toward targets. Monitor aggregated results or drill-down into results of individual clients.

Who is Eligible?

To be eligible for the P&S M&T incentive you must:

  • Have an Energy Manager or have the duties of an Energy Manager fulfilled to manage the M&T system. The Industrial Accelerator program offers incentives for hiring an Energy Manager.
  • Have a minimum annual electricity consumption of a least 15,000MWh for the previous calendar year.
  • Have the potential to, by the end of the second annual report, achieve a facility savings of 0.2MW in peak demand plus an annual MWh savings equal to the product of 0.2MW and the facility load factor.
  • Commit to implement projects with less than a 1 year simple payback period and to develop an actionable recommendation within 24 months of installation.
  • Agree to provide annual reports of opportunities implemented for a period of 5 years following implementation.
